Studio 189 wins CFDA Award

Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah celebrate their win.

Studio 189 took home the CFDA + Lexus Fashion Initiative Prize this week.  With offices in both Ghana and the U.S., they have been at the forefront of creating African inspired clothing while keeping a focus on sustainability and ethical fashion practices.

For their consistency, passion and maintaining a strong vision of their brand, the duo were awarded $80, 000 to help the brand continue to grow and connect with their consumers.  "You've given us the language; you've helped us with the tools to figure out how to take it from where we are to another level," Erwiah said. "We're designing our next collection around principles that we learned in this program."

The brand's founders, Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah are committed to distributing quality African-made and African-inspired products.  Not only that, but they also empower people in the fashion industry in Ghana through job creation and providing skills training.  Erwiah has been in the fashion industry for many years working in the luxury fashion realm.  She's also been involved in international development while Dawson is perhaps best known for her work as an actor.  She's also a passionate activist often making her voice heard in various issues affecting the underrepresented communities.

Congratulations to the pair on their monumental win.
